SAN
BERNARDINO - They brought music, prayer and a large cross to the streets of
Pomona in mid-April, and now they're coming back to San Bernardino to do it
again for a second time around. Only this time, it's expected to be larger.
Organizers of the four-mile Walk for Jesus event are estimating that more than
300 people will fill the streets between Perris Hill and Seccombe Lake parks on
the morning of June 16.

"In all the drugs, gangs and shootings, we're trying to reach people who need
help through a positive message of Jesus Christ...those who need to be touched,"
said Eric Avelar, another organizer of the event. Avelar added that the event
will be based off of Matthew 9:12-13 a Bible passage that talks about reaching
out to those in the community who are in need of a helping hand. "After the
walk, we'll ask the churches and Pastors to get more involved in the community,
"Avelar said. "We want to fight back through prayer, evangelizing and sharing
the word of God in San Bernardino. I do believe the crime rate in San Bernardino
will go down. It's a spiritual war we're fighting.
